21 day fix

3315474133_542ef01c44_oI wasn’t sure if I was going to share this here or not. Would you all be interested in this journey? Is this something that makes sense to share on my blog? What if I fail? Can I share this part of my life without over sharing on my blog? Then I though…Melissa, stop over thinking and just go for it. This is a new, exciting part of your life and sharing it might help others and will definitely keep you accountable.

So…today I started the 21 day fix and I’m so excited! I’ve yo-yo’ed with weight for most of my 20’s and 30’s and I’m ready to take control of my life again, eat healthy and get it together! So without boring you all with all the details, I’ll just give you the gist of the plan.

First, you figure out how many calories you can have per day [there’s an equation to figure this out]. And this tell you how many containers you can have. These containers are color-coordinated (green, purple, red, yellow, blue, orange and a teaspoon).

The calories allotted for the day=the amount of these containers you can have for the day. So for example, I can eat:

4 green containers (vegetables)

3 purple containers (fruits)

4 red containers (proteins)

3 yellow containers (carbs)

1 blue container (healthy fats and cheese)

1 orange container (seeds and dressings)

4 teaspoons (nut butters, oils)

The second part of this plan is exercise. The 21 day fix comes with a daily 30 minute workout that kicks your butt and burns the necessary calories for the day.

So basically, it’s a portion control system that doesn’t make you count calories or fat or weigh out food. All you do is fill the container and that’s it…it’s so simple! The key to this plan (and probably any plan if you want to succeed) is that you need to plan out your meals for the week or else you’ll be hungry, unprepared and resort to eating junk. I spent an hour or so yesterday planning out my meals for the week, grocery shopping and purging the house of junk. It’s truly genius and I’m so excited to get started!
